Video system for '99 Expy
Just bought a '99 Expedition and would like to have a video system installed. I would like your comments as to which system you have and if you installed it yourself. I saw a nice system on the Crutchfield.com site that included a new rear panel for the center console between the front seats with a flat screen monitor and VHS player from Clarion. The whole system with free console is about $550.
Thanks in advance.
Of course mine was a little more than $550.00 but you could probably check ebay and get some decent prices on stuff. Thats where I got most of my stuff. I would also reccommend DVD as oppsoed to VHS due the bulk of video tapes on a long trip (if you have kids). You could take 1/3 the size of VHS along in DVDs and have the same amount of entertainment. On EBay you can get DVD players for about $100.00. Head rest/seat back monitors for around $100.00 each.
I have the smallest DVD player made by Blaupunkt and it fits perfectly under the passnger seat. You can get it on EBAY for around $115.00 or less.
As far as installation goes the amount of difficulty depends on how crazy you get but they are fairly simple to install if you have basic wiring skills (Power/Ground/Audio/Video thats it). If you have the stock sound system you will need an RF Modulator (connects to VHS/DVD player) so that you can hear it through the stock system. All you do is tune to a certain channel and you hear it through the speakers.
Hope this helps a little...........Good Luck!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Can you give us a run down of the A/V items you installed?
I would be happy to search eBay to get good prices, but it would be nice to know what monitors/components you used, since I know they would fit.
I can handle the basic electrical stuff. Can you just give an overview of some steps, etc. to help us out?
Thanks 1e6!
