Question Video system for '99 Expy

Hi everybody. I'm a newbie here and had a question about intalling a video system in my Expy.

Just bought a '99 Expedition and would like to have a video system installed. I would like your comments as to which system you have and if you installed it yourself. I saw a nice system on the Crutchfield.com site that included a new rear panel for the center console between the front seats with a flat screen monitor and VHS player from Clarion. The whole system with free console is about $550.

Thanks in advance.

Thats a decent price. But what you have to realize is that in the center console people to the sides may have a difficult time viewing the screen. The passngers are up and to the right and left. The only person that will have an easy time viewing is the center passenger. They may have a stiff next from looking down at the monitor though! I went with an overhead console with monitor, 2 seat back monitors, in dash monitor, and a dvd player under the passenger front seat.
Of course mine was a little more than $550.00 but you could probably check ebay and get some decent prices on stuff. Thats where I got most of my stuff. I would also reccommend DVD as oppsoed to VHS due the bulk of video tapes on a long trip (if you have kids). You could take 1/3 the size of VHS along in DVDs and have the same amount of entertainment. On EBay you can get DVD players for about $100.00. Head rest/seat back monitors for around $100.00 each.
I have the smallest DVD player made by Blaupunkt and it fits perfectly under the passnger seat. You can get it on EBAY for around $115.00 or less.
As far as installation goes the amount of difficulty depends on how crazy you get but they are fairly simple to install if you have basic wiring skills (Power/Ground/Audio/Video thats it). If you have the stock sound system you will need an RF Modulator (connects to VHS/DVD player) so that you can hear it through the stock system. All you do is tune to a certain channel and you hear it through the speakers.

Hope this helps a little...........Good Luck!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am currently installing a kit I got from here: video system. It's a 4 monitor, DVD with TV tuner, FM modulator, 4 way switcher, 2 IR headsets (more can be added), TV antennae, game inverter, and installation kit. Cost around $1200. I agree with 1999XLT about off angle viewing. So far the only thing I have done is install the two monitors in the back of the front buckets but it was a piece of cake.

1999XLT,

Can you give us a run down of the A/V items you installed?

I would be happy to search eBay to get good prices, but it would be nice to know what monitors/components you used, since I know they would fit.

I can handle the basic electrical stuff. Can you just give an overview of some steps, etc. to help us out?

Thanks 1e6!
