Most of us are not running the fuel bowl heater, so dont' worry about that one.

The cord for the block heater starts right above the oil filter.

If you have a 97, it's possible you do not have a block heater and would need to purchase one and install it. It was an option in 97.

When it gets cool out, you'll know if the GP's are working by how rough your truck is starting.

If you want to check before hand, you can remove the VC's and inspect all the harnesses that go to the GP's and use an ohm meter to test them while the truck is off.

On the VC gasket and harnesses, you would be inspecting for burnt pins or melted plastic, which is something that can happen on these trucks though none of us are sure what causes it yet.

It may not have the plug in for the glow plugs being a Texas truck. It should be there but if not we can get one to put on there.

Or we can wrap the motor in an electric blanket

Pee man, the fuel bowl heater isn't really necessary. I'm up in Manitoba and the temps regularly dip in to the -40s every winter. As for the GP's check em out early just like Talyn said. If they're bad, order a new set from Jim at Rosewood diesel. Good price, good product. The other things would be strong batteries, a healthy starter, and as I found out last winter full synthetic oil is really helpful.

I dont think a heater blanket will keep it warm. ill just hook my mom`s 1000 hair dryers up and point them all at the truck.

The schaefers anti gel is good. but they put additives in the fuel in the winter time to help keep it from gelling as well.
I've never had any gelling issues using 2 stroke either. *shrugs*

The fuel bowl heater is good to go on the SD's, but on the OBS's it can cause some issues when it breaks, so we just all pitch them and throw it out of the equation.

You check the glow plugs at the VC harness, no need to un-tape the lines.

I'd love to give you better help on this, but I have never attempted to Ohm them out myself.
You just need an Ohm meter to test the resistance of the glow plug. Somebody else will have to give you the rest of the info.

I used a blow dryer to start my truck last year. Pulled the filter and let blow in the intake for a few mins.

Hmmm.
I wonder if there is a way I could pipe one into the intake.

My 81 Rabbit gelled on me once at -40. It would idle but not make power. I put a electric heater under the fuel tank and used a fusee (flare)on the fuel filter and away I went. Late for work though but they didn't care, not very many were making it and they were glad I could make it. LOL

That would kinda be like haveing a grid heater like a dodge. I bet you could take one and make it work on our trucks.

They have them in the SD trucks. Intake heaters are a blockage for air flow though acuse they are so big, most people remove them.

This would be on a seperate thing, I'm really just blowing smoke though. I could care less. haha.
