... I will be buying a cheap cardboard glove box...
Just to be clear, the Dennis Carpenter liners are made of cardboard, but it's a very thick stiff board, near 1/8" thick. The way they are constructed they are very stiff. You could easily put 5 lbs of junk in there and it wouldn't flex a bit. As long as you keep them from getting soaked by a bad windshield gasket they are just fine.
Yeah, pretty sure the bad windshield gasket is why mine is destroyed.
I thought that's why they got the sag in the middle that doc mentioned, ?? I have seen that but don't have a picture, they just kinda fell apart, plus the one in my F5 parts truck had lots of mice crap etc in it. It was one of the first things in the dumpster.
I believe mine is original - a lot of stuff on mine was well cared for and in worn but good shape. I will double check this weekend, but mine only has a torn up and ripped front corner and no sag in the middle if I remember it correctly. And yeah, I had a mouse nest in it after 8 years (they pulled the loose cotton mattress out of the seat and took it up for a cozy little home - no damage other than the crap, I was able to pull everything out, damp sponge it a few times and get it back to "serviceable" but worn condition.
I'm only looking at replacing because with the front torn as bad as it is, I am afraid that removing it, mounting the radio, building a wire shield for the radio it won't survive being handled that much.
[Edit] Based on the idea that a little polyester resin will waterproof it and make it strong enough to hold up the radio without sagging in 5 years I am now leaning back towards the original with a fab'd radio cubby (trying to stay as original as possible).
I was up there sandblasting and looked at mine again. Its no doubt original but terribly sagged in the middle. Otherwise it is constructed very similarly to the DC one.

That's real different than mine! are the bulges on the left and right intentional? Mine goes straight back top, bottom, and both sides?? Yours looks like it's meant to clear something to the left; heater?
I was wondering myself - I seem to remember it just being like a oval trash can... no dents on the sides like that. It's all bad recollection at the moment cause the truck is at grandad's.

Believe it or not, I didn't realize how terribly bad it is sagged and deformed until I pulled the crap out of it and looked at it again tonight. I can tell that it was originally shaped like you said. That should be a testimony to how durable that cardboard is after 62 years to survive the very slow water damage. By the way, as you might have guessed, my truck needed a new windshield seal probably 30 years ago. That and new glass is on my winter bucket list.
I need an a/c for mine but not sure how to find one. Can't afford one of the new ones for sure.
Looking at your pictures it appears there is no floorboard on the passenger side? How is the driver's side?
Which engine do you have? I can't remember ever seeing a flat-6 with A/C, even on the flat-V8s they are not that common. It isn't easy to get a compressor mounted on the 8s because of the belt arrangement.
I have a flat 6 in my truck but it will be taken out and a 351W or Cleveland will be put in.
I was looking for a mustang under the dash a/c, but none at the junkyard.

Those underdash ac units are out there but you better be patient. They are getting pricey as well, Keep you eye on the local pull-a-part type yards and ebay but be prepaired to spend some coin.
After you find one then you'll still have to invest plenty of fabbrication hours and dollars making hoses, mounts, wiring, etc.
I have a unit I pulled from a 63 Galaxy that might find its way into my 49.....someday......
