I hear ya on the 4wd. Its not really that important to me. If I want to play around in 4wd thats what I have the Jeep for. I grew up in north east Ohio where the lake effect snow hits hard. I know other places can get more, but where I live now in Connecticut is not one of those places. I always used to drive 2wd trucks there in Ohio, so I'll be just fine here in Connecticut.
That said, got out of work early today and wanted to check some of these trucks out...

If a 150 could handle your towing needs, you could get a pretty nice newer one for your price range.
But USED car shopping is the worst thing ever known to man. I f8cking hated it. Took me like 6 months of craigslisting and autotradering everyday to find a decent ride.
I would put the bed on craigslist like mentioned. Lots and lots of people from all kinds of businesses would be interested in that bed! They are nice for all kinds of stuff from plumbers and electrical guys to welders and wood working handy men.
