Rotor Question/Opinions

I am looking at a rotor upgrade for the bus. I have used powerslot's in the past with great results. Does anyone have other experiences with different brands or styles? There are a lot of cheaper options on Ebay. I will probably go with Hawk pads or some other performance pad. Thanks in advance for any input.

I strongly recommend 'plain ole' rotors (i use ORiellys lifetime-warranty) and EBC Yellowstuff pads.

Call Clay at Riffraff for the pads!

Those slotted, drilled and otherwise molested rotors wont make you stop faster...

I've had good success with the high end Raybestos ones. Not the new wavy slotted ones, just the plain style.

I second the Raybestos rotors, however I do have the slotted ones and have had great results thus far. Thay are a bit cheaper than the Powerslots, but more spendy than the stock replacements.

Good pads are the key to long rotor life. I've had cheap pads eat up and warp a set of rotors in 20k miles and have gotten 80k out of a set of the O'Riellys (Wagner?) rotors using EBC pads.

I had a caliper lock up and SMOKE the EBC Greenstuff pads on the front of my X awhile back. The rotor was glazed, cracked and obviously had been VERY, VERY HOT. It still did not shake, although I did have a slight pull until I changed the pads...

The Yellowstuff pads provide a HUGE difference in braking performance. They are not 'grabby' at all, but do not require near the pedal pressure to stop the truck(s) that the other pads I've used do - even EBC Greenstuff. The harder you push the brake pedal - the faster you stop, period. They also stop THE SAME when HOT or COLD. I have yet to heat them up enough to experience brake fade, and I have literally tried - just to see if their claims are true.

Every one that I ever bought warped until I went to the NAPA rotors.. Reasonable and no shake!

I like stock rotors. How can a slotted or drilled one do anything but lighten your wallet? There is less surface area and they are weakened with the holes, plus it has been proven that they are no better than stock. As long as people keep paying for them they will keep hacking up stock rotors and give a sales pitch.

I don't like the power slot/ hawks like everyone else seems too. I LOVE the EBC pads. You can see out of the box they are better.

My take is do not buy slotted or cross drill. You can not turn them and they don't stop any better, I had a set of slotted rotors with about 25K and the pads wore out so I changed thepads and could not turn the rotors so I just put new pads, after 5k miles I had this horrible grinding feel on the pedal the slotted groves had wore down and it was gringing my pads. I put new life time rotors from O'reilly and now I stop quieter and smoother, and if I have any problems at all I walk my happy butt in with my reciept and say I need new rotors thanks. my $.02

Powerslot cryo treated rotors are the way to go! I had them on for 60K miles and towed 11K several times per year and they performed flawlessly! If you do a search on this subject you will see some of the Excursion owners of the past highly recommend these as well. Yes you can have slotted rotors turned I had mine turned and I know of several others that have as well!

I had 80k on last set of O'Rielly rotors/towing heavy constantly.... Failed caliper glazed one up real bad, so I warrantied them out for new ones to go with my new Yellowstuff pads. Cryo is another waste of money IMHO.

Im towing with X for the first time since I installed Yellowstuff pads. Its really incredible how smooth and consistent these pads stop this 21k lb load. I will never go back to 'regular' pads!!! Thanks Clay!

I have 70'xxx miles on my power slot cryo/sloted rotors with hawk pads, they worked great for a while now I have the shurgging again. I will not spend that kind of money on parts that don't last as long as OEM. Original brakes went 125xxx miles.

Damn Jason, I think you've talked me into the Yellowstuff pads.

After his initial review posted a few months ago, I checked my pads in the hope I could "justify" replacing them with yellow stuff right away... no such luck.

I really liked the EBC green stuff on my roadrace bike. Different application than our X but the experience was REALLY good.
