This happened to me a couple of days ago, I just got out of school and my car wouldn't start. I don't think it was a battery problem but i tried at least 3 times and nothing. i was about to call for road side assistance but after one more try it turned on. It hasn't happened again, but has this happened to anyone else? i have a 2k3 escape and got about 500 miles on it. Should i take it to the dealer????
You can have the dealer check it out, but you know what's going to happen: "Sorry, we couldn't find anything wrong." My first guess would be a glitch in the anti-theft system. When you first tried to start it, did you notice the red "theft" light flashing? When you first turn the key, this light needs to be glowing steady. If it's flashing, then something is wrong with the anti-theft or the chip in the key. Now, if the problem somehow fixed itself and you waited a few minutes between attempted starts, then the vehicle would start up readily. You need to keep an eye on this light in the future when starting the vehicle. It will at least help the dealer in diagnosing the problem.
This is a long shot but I've seen it before. If it happens again you can also see where the shifter is. It might not be all the way in park. If you tap on the shifter and the car starts the dealer will have to replace or readjust the safty switch.
