So, right now I'm at the junkyard, and sitting in front of me is a 460 out of an '83 E-350, and I can grab it for damn cheap. My question is, will the frame perches and motor mounts bolt into my '84 F-150?
I am not sure the f150 crossmember has the proper holes like a f250/350. They never put the 460 in the f150. I would get everything and try it if it were me.
i have done a 302 to 460 swap in a 1980 f150 4x4. If you search my username you should see some more detailed info, but off the top of my head......
you will need conversion mounts from L and L, a remote oil filter set up, and possibly some brackets for the alt, ps pump, a/c, etc.
Also you will need to address the difference in size from your bellhousing or tranny. a small block and big block tranny are different. I used my old driveshafts. It wasnt a bad swap at all, hellalot of power as i built the 460 before install. Also, that thing is HEAVY, you most likely will need to beef up your springs. check out jeff's bronco graveyard for most of the conversion parts.
You don't need L&L junk if you have all the Ford stuff(the Ford engine mounts are better,) but I for some reason I seem to remember that the van frame stands don't work on a truck. I think you might still be able to get them from Ford. You will need a remote mount oil filter though, the 90 degree adapter Ford used on the factory 460 trucks won't clear the crossmember on an F150.
You will have to address the bellhousing issue, if you have an auto, that means a new trans.
Hmm. Well, the springs won't be an issue, I'll just grab a set from an F-250 at the junkyard. And then after the engine swap, I'll be doing a coil sprung D60 SAS. As far as the transmission goes, I was going to put an NP435 or a BW T-18 (which is what I have now) behind it until I can find a 4x4 variant of the ZF 5 speed for it. And that brings up another question, can I use my existing BW T-18 transmission with a 460 bellhousing?
Out-effing-standing. That's a couple hundred bucks saved. Now I've just gotta go back and get the engine. Hopefully it's not gone before either Sunday, or one day next week.
just make sure you get the right bell housing, mine ended up being from god knows what and had a hard time getting the right clutch kit, ended up using one from a 360/390.
