My Firefox with Adblock must not be working then. I can see the STP but not any others on the side or pop ups. I do pay in as a supporter.

I’m running Vista and Google Chrome. I tried Firefox with Adblock but the ads still appeared. I then installed Adblock to Chrome and the problem was solved. All ads have disappeared including the embedded STP ad in the forum thread/post section; only the Tire Rack ad at the top of page remains.

The guy who developed Adblock indicated he spent a few thousand hours developing the software; he’s done quite an effective job. I believe the STP ad is a special type of pop-up that Adblock is able to detect.

I have no real issue with most ads; they defray the costs of file space, development and maintenance of public forums. However, when the ads appear as posts in the forum, I consider them an annoyance.

Now, surf’s up and the coast is clear.

I'm running XP on one machine and just started using Windows 7 on my new computer at my shop. I'm using IE on both and am comfortable in using it so I don't plan on changing. The STP ads really don't matter to me other than the fact I think they're deceptive in their delivery. I would think Intersate Brands would be concerned about what their customers think but I'm probably wrong. FTE is the most ad laden site I go to and it's not the most visited site either. The HAMB doesn't have any ads, they do have sponsoring "Alliance" members and some of these member have ads on their home page but none on their boards. If they did I'm sure HAMB members would give them hell for it. Again, the only thing that keeps me here are the members and the friendly and helpful atmosphere that is maintained by the members. It sure isn't all the ads and the problems that seem to pop up every six months.

I guess this is a question for the admins, but has FTE ever considered this type of business model? Seems like it would be a lot more popular with the members, and potentially more lucrative than pop-up advertisements...

Looks like a lot of members feel that way!

No, "Julie" violated other board rules. The problem was after "she" complained about the mouse over ads the topic changed to questions about "her" actual identity. Mo made mention of this in one of his posts during the long dragged out thread.

I feel it is a slippery sloap and a dangerous precedent to let sponsors use the threads to sell there wares. What happens if 3 outa 4 threads are adds? Yes We need and should welcome sponsors but just not in our personel threads. Thanks for viewing one mans opinion.

Jim, that's my point. I understand neccesity of the the normal ads on the side and top, those are obviously ads but the ads in the board itself is, IMO, opinion deceptive. Some one mentioned there were already 1000+ views of these ads. I wonder if the total views are a sum of all the views in all the other boards or just the '48-60 board.

There's been times that a sponsor has piped in with a pitch about an item or service that might benefit a member with a problem or question. I have no problem with that, in fact I think that could very helpful. I think the board rules allow this as long as the person trying to promote their product or service is a paying sponsor. I know there have been a couple of members who have incurred the wrath of the admins for offering parts and services who weren't paying sponsors and were either threatended with expulsion or were told to leave.
