So I changed my plugs and COP boots today in my newly acquired Ex -- BTW thanks for all the great post on how to change the plugs, great help. To my surprise, someone had put NGK plugs in my Ex and gapped at .043. Now with my limited amount of knowledge in regards to the internal combustion engine, does having the wrong spark plugs negatively affect the engine? If so, how?
Also changed the PCV valve, cleaned the MAF and IAC, changed the fuel filter and air filter and cleaned the throttle body. BTW RockAuto rocks -- Got 10 COP boots for $25 and a Ford PVC valve for $17. I thought that was a deal compared to other sources.
When I cleaned the IAC, I just sprayed the inside with carb cleaner to get rid of the carbon deposit. Is that how you clean this valve? I had heck of a time trying to disconnect the hose connected from it so I just sprayed the inside with the hose attached. I was getting really tired too from doing all this stuff and my back and legs were toast.
Next task is to change front and rear axle fluids -- maybe this weekend. Hopefully in a few months I'll be able to buy Hedman headers and Y pipe. After that the Ex should good to go for awhile.
