Powerstroke sound

I love my ford, but today I was behind a dodge 2500 cummins, and he has this looked like a 8" tip, that was like 16" long coming out the back, and everytime he hit the pedal it was LOUD and DEEP! is there anyway our 7.3s can sound like that? Or is that just cause it's a cummins inline 6?

Based on your signature, looks like you are running stock size with delete, although it will not sound like the Dodge, I personally like the sound of a 5" full system no muffler, it has a nice low tone. Dan made some sound bytes with his 5" system here

List of sounds

You won't be able to get it to sound like the Cummins, a 24v with an exhaust system makes a sound that is hard to beat IMO. A straigh-piped 5" will be loud, but it will have a much different overall sound than the Cummins.

Does anyone sell a 5" down pipe? Is there any mods needed to fit it? What the biggest downpipe I can fit with out modification? Who sells it?

Clay at Riffraff Diesel sells a lot of different options, there is not a real gain other than a different sound going to 5" system, Riffraff Diesel: MBRP 5" Turbo Back Aluminized

Well if all you are going to run is a downpipe with nothing else, that will be very loud, and the downpipe still technically necks to the turbo outlet. With that short of a distance, I would not even change the downpipe, I would just cut it off with the stock 3.5" and see how you like that, it will be very loud.

Maybe I'll try that this weekend, do I have to cut it? I'm thinking I should be bolted on like a regular exhaust system?

The sound would be awesome. but whenever you stop I think the diesel exhast smell would be bad. I would think you would need to route it to at least the rear axle.
