any recommendations for an aod trans and steering column from another ford that will fit in a '68 f 250 with a 390? i figure the trans will need to live with 400hp. i am planning cam carb manifold headers but nothing wild, i doubt it will ever see the high side of 4000 rpm. tia!
p.s. , temp is good at idle /low speed but at higher rpm it rises fast. 2500 rpm @ 60seconds for smog put it up to 220f. i don't know if it has a t-stat. radiator is fairly new and the fan is spacer mounted with no clutch and the shroud is intact but there is a gap between it and the radiator. my 1st idea is close the gap and the find a clutch.
again thanx!
are you asking if there is an AOD that will bolt up to the 390?
unfortunately, the answer there is 'no'. there is no overdrive transmission that will bolt to a 390, unless you purchase a big-bucks adaptor from somebody like Bendtsen.
unsure on the temp issue, but 220 is a little warm for my taste. you may want to think about swapping the water pump, if you don't know how many miles are on it.
yeah i have been wandering the web since i posted and found no aod. i was hoping a pick a part crawl would yield something. it has a dana 60 rear so i guess my best option is a 3.54 ratio and maybe some taller tires. i'll need a tach to see how many rpm i am turning to see if it can come down a little. my k1500 had 3.73 4l60e and 35" tires so 60 mph was about 1700 rpm. water pump s/b less than 20k but if the p/o used our crusty las vegas tap water it could be ugly after ten years. p/o said he tried an electric radiator fan but it didn't help.
