If you are talking about water temp or oil pressure, just buy a new sender and put it in.
If you are talking about fuel, fill the tank, disconnect the battery, ohm out the sending unit to ground. Also, ohm out the gauge. Run the tank near dry, repeat. Post what you measure and we will help you diagnose your problem.
