IIRC, the post-05 wheels run about an inch or an inch and a half narrower track width on the inside, the youtube excursion guy used 2" spacers to clear them on his Ex. I don't have a subscribed thread to pull the specs out of real fast, but there's a couple good ones if you search.
I thought using the spacers did 3 things, keeps the tires from hitting things, returns the original track width of the vehicle, and most importantly keep the center of the tire properly located so that when you turn the tire it spins on a vertical axis rather than roll in a arc.
