This is possibly a dumb question but I'm trying to save some time! I have a Mercury truck with Ford fender badges on each fender (Ford Twin I-Beam) - they look cool but they are the wrong year, wrong everything - and I've had a few guys, usually in Lexusses (sp?) point it out - where the hell do they come from? Question: how do you remove these badges/emblems? Right now I'm guessing I stand on my head with very long arms and get under the fenders somehow and look for a nut I can't possibly see or reach that's welded on with rust...I don't think Henry Ford would have allowed that to happen. As I'm driving a Merc 250, this is an on-going embarrassment - BUT, I'll gladly give the Ford badges to anyone who needs them. If I can figure out how to get them off.
They should just pry off. There are pins sticking out the back of the badges that stick into some little clips called "barrel nuts" that are just pushed into little holes in your fender. Depending on the state of your paint and how long they've been there and how much muck or rust may be around them - all these things may help determine how hard they are to pry off. You can try special wide plastic removal tools available from Harbour Freight for less than five bucks, or just a common screwdriver or chisel to pry them loose. The pin may break off in the process, but if you're careful and lucky, they shouldn't. Good luck.
you can do what he said for precautiions, but i asked the same question and i just went out with a flat head and they just pry off slide the right emblem in and put it back on. took me all of what 5 mins to do it and 2 years to finally ask how haha

Henry Ford died in 1947, so he had nothing to do with it. Use a plastic putty knife to slowly work the emblems off.
Pry on one side of the emblem to work it loose, then pry on the other side. Doing it this way, the pins won't snap off.
1965 emblems are different than 1966. 1965's have FORD F100 or F250 across the top.
1966's have FORD across the top, F100 or F250 below...encompassed within the emblem.
Leave the barrel clips in the fenders once the emblems are removed. This size can be hard to find, leaving them in the fenders assures they won't get lost.
Thanks everybody! I knew Henry wouldn't create an impossible situation, dead or alive! As I won't be using these badges again, does anybody want them? I doubt they're original (on a Mercury?), but they're free to a good home.
I used one of those thin refrigerator advertising magnets to protect the paint & pry against, and electrical tape on the blade of a small pry bar. Worked great.
