I'm throwing in some photos with this thread. Did an oil change this am and when dumping the old oil at the transfer station I found this. The oil pan shown is not the one I transport oil in. It has a spout and carrying handle.
Its the white goop I am refering to. the other garbage you see was there. this is a community used oil drop off point.
I had the oil pan outside for a while before I brought it in and stored it untill this oil change. I was not looking last time and do not know if there was any of this stuff present during the last change.
I did the engine cold. Took the wifes car to get the filter and new oil so the old oil was pretty well settled when I did the change. I am thinking this is from an earlier change. I was right under the vehicle during the entire draining process and saw no goop drop out.
Perhaps this came from an earlier oil change maybe 10K or so ago, after my EGR/Oil cooler replacement and was hanging out in the bottom of the oil pan?? Would like to hre your thoughts
For good measure I did my EGR valve as well. I had the EGR replaced in October when it failed on me during a trip to Iowa. That was about 66K miles on the truck. I currently have 82,716 miles on her. So this is what an EGR valve looks with about 16K on it.
One thing I like about FTE is the Tech Folder.. gets you all primed to do the job. Any way I have seen videos of people struggling with the valve so I was prepared. I used a paint can lid prying tool to gently lift the EGR valve out of its port. worked very nicely.
I also have a collection of dental tools I asked my dentist for, once I found out they get tossed most of the time. The Cleoid/Discoid tool is great for cleaning out tight spots and mating surfaces.
Took about 45 minutes an viola! Clean valve! Happy truck!
The o-rings look like they were stained during cleaning for some reason. Can still see a little blue on them, just my guess.
Yup they got stained. I probably would have removed them but had no idea the carbon would liquefy the way it did. My driveway has what looks like an impact smudge on it!
