My 2011 F 150 Scab should be at the dealer in a few weeks. Do I get it rustproofed? Living in Northern Indiana, they use quite a bit o' salt on the roads.
My BIL has a 95 F 150 he bought new, and had Ziebart applied. It has a little bit of rust. But the 03 F250 Scab I'm trading in has as much, maybe a bit more, it wasn't rustproofed.
i live in NJ and the use normal salt, sand and that new liquid stuff ALL THE TIME! and my 2004 SD in my sig is holding up fairly well. I do wash it as much as possible in the winter though, i just bought Eastwood rust converter and did allthe body jointsunder my cab tonight actually. i was starting to get paint peeling and light surface rust. My bed supports are another story, ford must not prep the beds good on their trucks because my supports are getting that flaxy rust forming. If i bought anew truck i would do like i did before, wash it as much as possible in the winter, drence the undercarriage once spring hits and as soon as i see rust i would put Eastwood's rust converter on it asap!
I lurk in the 2011+ SuperDuty forum from time to time and a large handful of those guys are using it often and in some nasty upper mid-west climates. Might be worth a shot too.
I have been spraying liquid wrench in all my vehicles for years..the door weep holes, the inside rocker panels, tailgates and such...worked very well for me...
I just started using Fluid film 2 yrs ago and I like the results that we have seen..it leaves a good film and doesn't collect sand...Ihave sprayed all the spots under the truck that seems to hold water and it looks very good so far..
After working at a rustproofing place when I was younger,I would never have that stuff put on mine..
I did restore a couple broncos a number of years back and had the Texaco Cosmoline sprayed in all the nooks and crannys...alot like fluid film..
in the summer the stuff will run a little so there is always protection on the metal..
thats my 2 cents..
