I have a 96' Ford bronco sitting on 33x12.5x15.
I want to switch it to detroit locker 4.10s but i have not the slightest clue where to start with looking for parts CHEAP and where to look for labor because i dont dare to do it by myself.
Your best bet is to talk to some local people who modify their trucks too. See what shops they recommend and find out from these shops the cost and such. Many shops will not install parts bought elsewhere. Having one place provide parts and labor also goes better when/if warranty work is required. With changing gears, if not done correctly, there will be whine.....this is where one shop doing it all pays off.
You may also find a local person who does this work for others also while looking for info on shops.
I suggest finding someone to do the job before buying any parts.
Randy's Ring and Pinion for the parts. Make sure you get someone who knows what they are doing......it takes less than a mile to ruin a gearset that is not setup correctly.
As said, contact the local off-roading clubs, you might find useful info, btw, gearing is were you don't want to go cheap, so you better research the heck of whatever you decide to install in there. A good option could be an Explorer axle with 4.10, you'll probably save a bunch there, the front could come from a F-250.
keep an eye on craigslist for guys selling there bronco diffs that have already been geared. you would be suprised how many are going to 1 ton diffs and obviously cant use what they have already.
you have an overdrive tranny. honestly it will be a little hi rpms but not BAD. just know you have to get the front done before you try and use 4wd otherwise you will destroy the transfercase and perhaps other things also.
if you go with 4.56 you would be ready for 35's when that time comes. and if you run a 4inch lift you can clear 35's just so you know.
