Question Time to re-power

My F150 is getting tired. Has High miles, Leaks oil, Knocks and pops when I start it. Its time for a new long block.

The good news. I have some parts on the shelf.
1) complete 5.0 from a 91' lx CHP car. Throttle body to oil pan. 60k when I pulled it from the car.
2) gt40p explorer heads. Fresh cut seats, Trickflow springs.
3) 93' Cobra intake, 24lb injectors.
4) ECM & Wiring harness from the '91 lx.
5) 1.7:1 Roller rockers.
6) Doug Thorley Headers.
7) Fresh rings, bearings & push rods.

When I pile all the parts next to each other, It looks like a good start.
When I open the hood on the truck, It don't look so easy.
The intake on the truck looks different than the Stock 5.0 & The Cobra intake.

I think I need,
1) 70mm Mass Air & Throttle Body
2) Air filter
3) Swap the Trucks ECM for the '91 lx ECM??

This is my first FI Build. So any advice about how to get all the parts to work would be of great help.
Thanks- Purps.

What year is your truck? Current setup, motor and transmission?

The truck is a '95 F150. Currently has the original EFI 302
The transmission is NOT original, The previous owner torched the original transmission. I am not 100% but I think it was an AOD. He replaced it with a C4 & a gear vendors 3spd over/under drive.

The intake currently on the truck will flow better than either of the two that you currently have. Clean it and reuse it.

You may be able to get away with the truck's ECM, as well as the rest of the parts. Good move on the heads.

you aren't doing any mods that require bigger injectors, and you can use the computer from your 95,it should be MAF instead of Sd if it is the original for the truck..

Truck was made late year '94, its an SD setup.

I have the ECM from the '91 lx. Do I have to swap the whole wiring harness to use that ECM and convert to MAF??

Can I still use the stock intake if I switch to MAF?

I would use the 91 lx ECM , switch it to MA , use the truck intake , get a MA intake tube from a 95 , use the 19# injectors from the truck....Lew

If the trucks transmission was an AOD originally, then the truck was probably mass air originally too. Mine is. If thats the case, you can keep the truck ECU.

I'd also keep the truck intake.

The injectors are the same for both, if I'm not mistaken. I replaced my truck's original injectors with 19# Ford Racing injectors a few years ago and they are the same.

i'm no expert on this stuff. but. i would think, the truck ecm would be better. it is probably set with timing curves & fuel delivery more suited for 4x4. if you've regeared to 4.10 or 4.56, depending on tire size, the car ecm will give more performance on topend

He could use the truck ECM and keep it SD , the 91 LX ECM will be a MA , or he could get a 95 truck ECM thats MA....

Either computer will work but to use the 5.0HO ECM several pins have to be moved in the EEC connector and if the truck is SD the wires for the MAF meter and sequential injectors will have to be added. You can use the LX harness to make an overlay for these components which will plug into the truck EEC connecor. I have a spreadsheet that details all these changes if necessary.

In terms of flow numbers the Cobra and 5.0 Truck intakes are close, but the lower portion of the truck intake has a much better design with smoother bends and the truck throttlebodys are equal to a 75mm single, so it's pretty much exactly what you need.. no extra parts to buy.

19lb injectors are good for about 300hp and that's about what this motor can make so there's no need for anything bigger, that also eliminates the need for a retune.
