So i ordered a steering box rebuild kit about three weeks ago and still hasn't came because of one parts being on back order. LMC is out of they're rebuilt steering boxes. I wanna stick with the stock box but cant stand not being able to drive the truck. Is their any company out there that you guys know i can pick up the phone and have a rebuilt steering box ordered? or the complete rebuild kit?
Look up www.shoeboxford.com. They deal with the cars and actually rebuild them there in their shop as I've been told. Give Chris a call 1-800-732-6029. He may very well be able to tackle yours as well or give you the parts you need.
I have a steering box leaning up against the wall doing nothing, but I couldn't guarantee it's condition and you are a long haul from me. I never got to drive my truck, it seemed tight and easy to turn sitting in the driveway, but i am sure theres more to it than that...ya know? IT RAN WHEN PARKED!
good luck! if you are interested in taking a chance, let me know.

What parts comes in the so called "rebuild kit?" Upper/lower steering shaft and worm bearings and cups, sector shaft bushings, seal and gasket? Is a new worm and shaft, sector shaft also included?
These parts can be found NOS by the dozens, are genuine Ford, made in the USA. LMC is prolly buying these parts from another repopper, and they're prolly Chinese made.
These are simple gearboxes to ovehaul, worn sector shaft bushings are the usual cause for steering play. Why spend the bucks for a "so called rebuilt gearbox" when NOS parts are readily available?
Bill,
Last I knew (and it was a long time ago) the issue is availability of NOS worm and sectors. If the worm and sector are good (properly lubricated for 60 years) I agree that bearings, cups and seals are readily available in NOS and very reasonably priced. They are extremely easy to rebuild with the exception of replacing a new worm on the old shaft.
