Why would it cost $1500.00 I had 2 trucks done for nothing here in Canada. Before you decide to let it go do a bit more research into getting a title. The truck has likely been out of the system for years and all you should need is a bill of sale and have the guy you bought it from go to a Justice of peace or Commissioner of oaths and sign the neccessary papers stating that everything is on the up and up and papers were lost/ whatever and they should be able to write up the documents right in front of you. That's all it took for me.

This is basically what I did to get title just across the border in Minnesota. Bill of sale, Statement of Facts, and some pictures.

This seems to be a on going thing with purchasing a old truck. We have person after person come on this site and talk about and asking for advise about should they buy a older truck. Seems like what we really need to share with theses people 1. Does it have a title. 2. If not will the seller supply the correct documentation to get a title. 3. Does this person know the in's and out's to getting a title in there state. It's fine to find a older truck in great shape and dirt cheap. But if there's a mountain to climb or a lengthy time wait for a title this may be just the thing a few new buyers may want to pass on a particular vehicle.

I guess I should clarify my statement of not costing nothing, it was about $10 per vehicle and a sales tax for the purchase price. Just don't let anyone talk you out of your truck without checking into things a little deeper. Afterall you purchased it because you wanted it and putting one of these long forgotten beasts back on the road takes time. Just hang in there.

56FordGuy,
My FTE Friend. Do not give up so easily. Disregard the previous owner if he / she has become uncooperative. Try another DMV location and when you go visit the different DMV location do this:
Be clean "semi-professional" looking
Wear a pleasant fragrance
Compliment the person behind the counter on something
Hand them your paperwork
Remain silent
Answer ONLY the question asked of you
Do not share anything further relating to the transaction
Be polite
My understanding of DMV employees (there are several friends/acquaintances I know) is they dislike anything that goes against what I mentioned above.
Good luck and whatever you do, be patient.
