hello everyone. i recently purchased a 68 f100 with a 360FE and a 3spd manual on the column (2wd). would anyone know the type of trans and the gear ratios?
ok thanks for the info. it is top loading, side shifting behind a 360 so i assume the gear ratios you listed must be the ones i have. are these a tough trans?
Yes, they are tough. Expect high mile units to need bearings. Synchros are pretty tough if treated right. Ford put them behind 4bbl 390s in Galaxies and advertised them as a "3 1/2 speed" because of the then-unusual synchro first gear. This was a big deal as insurance companies did not like 4 speeds, so cheapskates could get their big motor and be able to shift gears, but avoid the 4 speed insurance penalty.
