My Cv boot has a very tiny slit in it, that the grease weeps out ever so slowly...been like that for a year now....Has anyone had any success with trying to "patch" these things up? I tried black silicone a few years back and it never bonded good and just flew off!
Thanks
Rich
ultra..I will try that route again...i should say that it is more of a puncture than a slit.....and in no way am I going to replace the boot now.....not reallly into having to remove the whole steering knuckle setup!
Thanks
Rich
Granted it might be making a mess, but new cv axles are A LOT cheaper than they used to be. You don't have to pull the knuckle off though...
Pull the tire, caliper and bracket together, then the rotor. After that all you have to take off is the Large nut to get the axle out for boot access. If you want to replace it just take the 5 or 6 bolts out bolting the other flange to the front diff and the whole cv axle comes off. Takes me 15 minutes to replace one. I am a mechanic though and have experience and any air tool I need. I wouldn't think it should take anymore than and hour and a half with hand tools... You might need a socket for the hub nut though. I had a 1-7/16" socket that was close enough I used it, it is metric though mines a 36 mm...
