I've searched the site and the web in general for possible info on electric battery blankets but I have not been able to find much info, other than prices at local parts stores. I wanted to post and see if any of you in the colder climates used these? If so, which ones have you used and/or do you recommend? Probably a dumb question, but should I put these on both batteries?
I'm trying to get the truck ready for my first winter here in Soldotna, AK and would appreciate this and any other information you could offer on winterization. I've purchased the cord for the block heater and will attempt to install that myself in the next couple of days. I'll be changing the oil in the next month or so (Synthetic Rotella 5w-40) and I plan on purchasing a Winter Hood to cover the front grille. I also purchased an antifreeze tester and will check that out in the day or so as well. Outside of these things, any other suggestions for getting ready for winter?
I think the block heater is going to be the best thing to do. With the motor warmed up the batteries will have enough cold cranking amps to kick it over.
Test the anti-freeze is always a good idea.
Invest in a timer that you can set for 3 hours before departure.
