Advice on my back glass rubber on my 46.

Got the side windowa in and now doing the wind shield and back glass. The window rubbers fit great on my wind shield but the back glass rubber is alittle big. Shouldnt the rubber fit tight around it. I got the rubber and alot of other parts from early ford and I have been very satisfied with there stuff. I know some of you all have done this and I would like to know if you all have ran into this also. I check the package and it does say its for my truck but they could have put the wrong rubber in by mistake. I guess I can call them but I was wanting to see if you all have ran into the same problem first. Scott

Ran into the opposite problem with my 48 back window recently. I'm using rubber from LMC Truck. Windshield went in fine but I broke the back glass trying to install it. I don't know if the rubber is thicker than stock or not but I'm having a new back glass cut 1/8 inch smaller...

i got mine from drake many years ago. was tight going in, and appeared to be big until glass "filled" the grove. use lots of soap to lube. (does rubber seam butt together when you put rubber on body without glass?) like vern said, you might have to take small amount off glass to fit. measure twice---you know the deal.

The rubber when on my glass fits good around the sides. What im calling the sides is imagine your hold the back glass in your hands like you are putting it in the truck. On the top and bottom the rubber is lose, you can put 3 fingers in between the glass and the rubber with the rubber on it. As far as holding the rubber in the truck cab with the glass not in there its way to big. To get it to fit the back glass opening right I would have to cut the rubber into and take 2 inch's out of it and then try to use rubber glue and put it back together. The back glass rubber should fit tight around my glass just like my windshield rubber did. I know I have confused you all because I can explain this good at all. Let me say it like this, Its like I'm trying to put regular size back glass rubber on a back glass that has been chop down a inch to fit a chopped cab. Should I call early Ford and see if they might have messed my order up.

are you positive glass is correct? are you putting gasket in correctly? large lip goes on inside of cab. hard to make this call without visual, but, seems that mine was similar until those last two corners got pulled in tight. make the call to cya. then get her done. pete

I'm going to call first thing in the morning. Yeah I have the rubber in right. As far a the right glass the door glass and windshield fit great, but I could also call the guy I got the glass from to just to double check. Im going to call early ford first because I looked in their book and the back glass rubber I bought from them at the car show has a different part number than their book does. Part number out of the book is (01C-704220) and the bag I have is (01C-7042084) but it says 1940-47 P.U. rear window seal. I'll just have to see what they say first. I'll let you guys know.

UPDATE: The guy from early ford is suppose to call me in the morning, I went to a car show sat evening and there was a guy there that had a 39 ford truck. And just my luck he didnt have a back glass in it yet, so since I was less then a mile from home guess what I did. I went home and got the rubber and we asked the guy if we could see if it would fit his truck. It fit the 39 truck great so now I have something to tell the guy at early ford know. At least I know the rubber was package wrong, I just wonder how many was sent out like that. I'll let you know what the guy says. Scott

UPDATE 2: Guy from Early Ford called me back and he checked out the rubber for my back glass. He said he checked it on his personal truck which is a 40 model. He did say that the rubber did seem to be a inch or 2 inchs longer than it should be. He is calling the manufactor and going to find out if they have had complants on this or any other problems. He is suppose to get back with me this week. When he does I will let you guys know. Scott

UPDATE 3: Finally 3 months later I got the back rubber for the truck. All of early fords back glass rubber was to big. So I had to pay $20 more dollars and they order the back glass rubber from Drakes. Petey Shoes, you was right the rubber was tight as heck but we lube it up and it fit great. All the glass is finally in and we are happy. Listen buy no means am I saying early ford's glass rubber is no good. Matter of fact the windshield rubber fit great and it went in great, but there back glass rubber was way to big. It looked like the rubber that would go in a 39 ford truck. I'm iust trying to save some of you some time.

Does anyone know if there is a sliding rear window surround available for a 47? I have the glass and other parts but no track.

I havent seen a sliding track for one of these but that dont mean they arnt out there. I would call some of the companies and talk to them. I'll post some updated pics of the truck and you all can see how it looks with the new glass in. He went with the tinted glass. Thanks
