I've been searching the forums and haven't found anyone with the exact same problem. Truck is 04 supercrew with 5.4 and 140,000 miles. I have the typical shutter when cruising 55 - 60 and just ease on the throttle to pass someone. I chalked that up to the torque converter unlocking, if I punch it instead of easing into it, it will not shutter. As of yesterday, it acts like the converter is going to full lock up almost immediately. It will bang when it shifts and rpm's drop to lock up range. A few times it has killed the engine when I shift into D. No codes at all, I removed the programmer and installed the stock tune, no change, unhooked battery, no change, fluid is good, and twice after leaving stop signs it worked perfect until the next stop. I believe that it is an electrical control problem. Any ideas? Thanks
I have just started having this issue with my 07 once it gets to overdrive an I give it just a little gas I get a vibration an a noise that sounds like I hit some slow down strips in the road. But only in overdrive. With the overdrive off it doesn't make a sound. Had it at the dealership saturday an they did some kind of TSB flash I can't remember the number but it cost me 80 dollars even with powertrain warranty and it did nothing so it will be going back this week.
Went to the local tranny expert today. He said that it sounds like the TC lockup is not releasing. My code reader shows nothing. It goes in Monday morning, he is going to check operation and codes with his scanner, if it shows nothing he will dump the pan. He said that it sounds electrical, maybe a selonoid or the pcm, but if there is debris in the pan and filter, the torque converter is coming apart and will need full rebuild. What you describe is exactly how mine started, the first time it happened, I thought that I had hit rumble strips, that was about 10,000 miles ago. I am checking the harness and pins from the pcm to the trans tomorrow, if nothing, I will dump the pan and cut the filter apart myself. If I find debris , I will take it to the shop with me on Monday, if not I will probably order a Torque converter selonoid and try to repair it myself. Good luck, I'll post the findings as they come. Thanks
My truck update is.......needs new torque converter. The parts will be coming from lakeland tomorrow. They was going to charge me for a new filter an I said is it gettin new fluid he said yes long story short no charge on the filter. I hope that fixes my issue I ll let u know.
Got the truck back today and they found a P1744 code so they changed the TCC solenoid an the torque converter. They said the resistance value out of range for TCC solenoid. So far it feels fine no shuddering. Does any one no what screen asy. is that the filter ???
Got my truck back from the tranny shop. Trans is junk, $2600.00 to remove, overhaul and put back in. 2 year 30,000 mile warranty. I'm still driving it for now shopping around. Glad your luck was better.
