I've been having some intermittant guage problems with my '04 F350 with the 6.0. First, the trans temp guage bounces around sometimes. Most of the time, it reads normally. Only when I use the AC, (not necessarily towing) will it get pegged hot. I have checked the fluid and am pretty sure it is not overheating. Lately the battery light has come on, also intermittantly. I checked voltage with the light on and got 13.9 volts at idle. Light off it gets 13.75 at idle.
It is definitely possible that the temp sensor is bad and the alternator is on the way out (almost 8 years and 112,000 miles) , but I was wondering if there is something these circuits might share that could be causing both these symptoms. Or should I just change these parts and hopefully be done with this?
I would say it's your alternator going out. Since it's not charging yout batteries, they may be going soon. This could be the cause of the strange things going on with your gauges. Change them and see if it clears up your problems.
