Glow Plug replacement tips

Hey guys, when we did the passenger side gp's on my 97 f350 last year we broke a couple off in the head. I'm about to do the drivers side now. Any tips to prevent this from happening again? Will doing the job with the engine warm (or cold) make any diff?

I've always have done mine when its cold. What did you do when you broke off two? Did you pull the head? Sounds like a nightmare!
