Hey guys, when we did the passenger side gp's on my 97 f350 last year we broke a couple off in the head. I'm about to do the drivers side now. Any tips to prevent this from happening again? Will doing the job with the engine warm (or cold) make any diff?
The tip is to only install good glow plugs when you put them in. Motorcraft glow plugs are the gold standard. Autolite glow plugs tend to have the tips swell up and break off in the head.
If the tip is already swelled up, all you can do is go slow and keep your fingers crossed. When I changed my Motorcraft glow plugs with 360,000 miles on them, they simply unscrewed with no issues. Not one single head even looked like it was thinking about swelling up.
