I'm going to replace the very rusty oil pan on my 2001 F350 4wd Diesel. The oil has started to seep thru at one place. I haven't decided if I'll raise the cab or take off the turbo in order to get the clearance I need. My questions for those who have done this are... about how far up will I need to raise the engine in order to swap the pans and is it best to jack the engine from below or lift it from above . Thanks for your help.
The engine has to come so far up that you might as well remove it. The oil pan gasket is just RTV (use the stuff from Ford / International since it's some really good stuff.) That means you'd have to jack it up far enough to remove it and let it sit for a few days for the oil to stop dripping. Then clean, apply RTV and pan and let it set up.
It would be quicker to just pull the motor and flip it over so you have no drips to deal with.
I am really interested in doing the rivet removal. I have a concern about being under the truck when the last rivet is removed. I'll have to look at it in the morning. Thanks to all.
As long as your front bumper and lower cross member are on I can't imagine it would go anywhere. Those with 2wd would have to remove the traction beams which seems equally difficult.
