90 F150 302 EFI 4x4. I know there are a million threads about jacking up the engine to remove the oil pan on here and I have read a bunch of them. Now that I'm getting ready to start its all swimming around in my head and I wanted to do a final check. I have the motor mounts loosened, the fan shroud bolts out, battery cables disconnected, and a jack under the oil pan with a block of wood between it and the pan. Is there anything I am missing before I begin raising it? Thanks.
Sounds like you did well using the Search feature. I would note that it may be handy to have another jack to help support the tranny. You may be able to remove the oil pan without dropping the exhaust, but be prepared for some hardship if it doesn't come out. You will have to remove the tranny crossmember, the gusset for sure on the passenger side. I was able to drop the exhaust, remove the x-member, raise the tranny, and then drop the oil pan. Also you will need to unbolt the oil pump and pickup and set it in the pan, or the pan won't come @ all.
If you run into problem's, just Post back and we'll help you best we can.
P.S. Why are you removing the oil pan? Just curious!
Thanks Timbersteel! My truck has low oil pressure so I am dropping the pan to check out the oil pickup and bearings, hoping its the pickup and the engine isn't shot. I have the engine blocked up now, wasn't abe to get it very high before the intake hit the firewall, hopefully I will be able to get the pan out of there. I don't have anything under the tranny but do have another jack so I'll use that to support it for good measure.
I don't know if this works with a 2 wheel drive. but when I had to change the oil pump in my 93. I jacked the body/frame up so that the suspension hung down, giving more room between the axle and oil pan.

it should seeing as the suspensions are similar... atleast id think it would
Having trouble gettng the second pump bolt out so I haven't been able to attempt removal yet but it looks to me like there is not enought room for it to come out. Will try jacking up the frame and see if that gives clearance, otherwise looks like I'm in for some fun dropping the exhaust, those bolts look like they have been under the sea for a 100 years.
