I have a 79 ford f150 and I need to change the oil pump. I have disconected the bolts to the oil pan and nocked it loose, but there's not enough clearance to pull it out. Wonderingif anyone knows a way to get it out. Easy way if possible. Thanks
Well, if you have a front sump pan, this may help if suspension/axle is blocking it. Jack up your truck by the body/frame, so your axle/suspension is suspended completely, maybe then you can get it out. Rear sump pans come in handy in times like those.
I recently took on the same project, and i found by taking loose the engine mount bolts on the frame, you can jack up the engine enough to remone the oil pan. Once the engine is jacked up you will have to partially drop the pan and disconnect the oil pump and the strainer assembly. Then the pan can be slid out the back or the front depending on whick pan you have. You may have to turn the crankshaft to provide the necessary clearance. I cannot swear that this will be successful, since my engine has a double sump oil pan, but i thought i'd make the suggestion any way. Good luck!!! [updated:LAST EDITED ON 17-Oct-02 AT 08:53 PM (EST)]Not sure whether I have a single or double sump pan, I just did mine while back, had to loosen mounts, took a block of wood and a floor jack, boosted the motor up a little. And I had to pull the pump. The pan silde out fairly easy. My oil pan is deeper in the rear side I believe. Next time I'd like to try using a lift to pull the motor up. Good luck, Blair
Thanks everyone! I don't know if i have a frount sump or rear sump. The pan is deeper in the frount then the back. It's only like a half inch from coming out the frount. I'll go try some of these things and see if it works. Any more help would be great. Thanks
K I got it out bearly by dropping the pump in the pan and it cleared the radiator bearly, but i don't know how i get it back in. Any ideas? The pump is bad that's why i'm changing it. It had really low oil pressure. I found little cunks of plastic in the pan and screen. Doe's anyone know what that is i didn't think any plastic was in the engine. Any help would be great! Thanks
