Just Friday I went to the DMV to see how much extra it was gonna cost to remove the fiberglass shell from my '04 F250. In California, if you have a shell bolted to your truck you get to apply for car plates, which reduces the fees. But I hate my shell since I can't see very well when backing up, my quad won't go in the back, it's a pain to load with hay for my wife's friggin' horse, and on and on. Anyway, the nice lady at the DMV informed me that my license would go up $204 extra dollars on top of the $177 they want otherwise. But I get even other ways. I non-opped my quads when they raised the fees a few years ago. Those fees get me absolutely nothing. There's no place for me to ride on state property here, so I ride in Oregon ($11 for two years and you can get it at pretty much any hardware store or bike shop) and here I ride on private property. Screw this state. I'm still pissed about them charging me used tax for a quad I bought in Nevada! You tell me how on earth it's legal or moral to charge me state tax on somthing I bought out of state.
I honestly wonder why people live in places where you have to pay so much?
I'm stuck here in Hawaii due to the Military. I'm hoping to return to Texas when I get out. Definately no way I'm going to the PRK

it shouldn't be legal, but they do it
I shipped my truck to Hawaii in 2007. I lost the little white piece of paper saying I had shipped it. The DMV tried to charge me taxes for it's worth of ~$30,000.
I was lucky enough that the shipping company had a copy of the receipt. The states position was that I could have purchased my truck in the State of Hawaii rather than shipping it and they wanted their tax money. Even though the truck had never existed in their system. Rip-offs.
ouch...I tried picking up a nice 67 Fastback Mustang for $4k a few months back. The owner had let the registration lapse 25 yrs ago. When I called the DMV and asked, they told me I had to pay for those 25yrs worth of back registration.
needless to say I didn't buy the car. I think it would have been just shy of $12,000 to catch up the registration
Thats ridiculous! My dad forgot to register his truck for a year, drove it the entire time. Went in to register and told the registries about it and they just said, well you're lucky you didn't get caught then and that was that, no extra fees or anything.
Wow.... I thought PA was bad, for my F250 CC, I pay $136 a year, but an Excursion with the same damm engine and frame only pays $36. bad part about it is, i drive less then 5000 miles a year. I pay the state to park it in my driveway.
Come live in San Diego like I do and you will see why.
