NEED ADVICE ENGINE SURGES

Left Ogallala Neb campground truck running great started down freeway on ramp pulling strong then lost power engine started to surge and blow black smoke out the exaust. Sat for about 5 min. trying to get a phone number for help and the problem cleared and the truck ran great. Pulled thru the Rockies past Denver with no problem. Now we are in Glen Dale Utah and it happened again this time the engine cleared in about a minute. Do I need to find a Ford Garage or is this just some bad fuel I got? 2004 6,0l with 55000 miles had oil and fuel filters changed about 1500 mi ago. Sorry for long post.

Find a place that will pull codes (if any) for you.

Glendale is kinda out in BFE! Try to get to cedar city that's you're best bet for a Ford dealership. But it sounds like you're ICP sensor is going out. I would help but i'm 4 hours north of ya near Lehi.

Pull the EGR valve

It is probably getting stuck on some carbon chunks. Clean it and look in the intake.

Being new to this truck I should have checked the Tech Guides first, if I am reading correctly I should be able to just pull off the wiring harness for now and do the cleaning when I get home. Thanks for the replys.

Start checking the ICP and then check your FICM as well to be sure. Then I would start diagnosis on the injectors and fuel system.

watch coolant temps with more than the dash gauge when you see hot on that it maybe to lait
