My first Ford - I need a 2012 - When?

Hi all!
I am new to the forum, looking forward to order a 2012 F150 XLT super crew 6.5' bed 4x4 HD payload package + max tow, EB.

Does anybody know when Ford has switched their official F150 site and "build your own" tool to the new model year in the past?

What do you guys think about the above configuration, and what kind of out the door price should I expect?

I would love to have a black grille like the XL's, STX's or FX4's have, but I need seating for 6, so I don't think I can get that, or can I (did I miss a way to do that)?

Thanks a lot everybody for your input!

Welcome to FTE! Be patient, Ford sometimes is a little slow out of the gate getting the new MY build site up and running.

It's a safe guess that the 2012 model year F-150s will be more "evolutionary" than "revolutionary" - new colors inside and out, some minor body tweaks, etc.

The 2012 configuration system will probably look incredibly similar to the one now with respect to seating configurations and major option packages.

Seating for six? At least one of your six will have to be *really* small, and you'll obviously need a trim line that doesn't come standard with a front center console/floor shifter - this would rule out the FX4. You'll also need a SuperCrew (unless four of your six are *really* small), which rules out the STX - all of the above assuming that the interior configurations available now carry over to 2012.

Happy shopping, and welcome to FTE!

Thanks everybody.
Yeah, the six seating capacity is only needed like once a year, but we really want it. Two of the six would be really small, we have a 5 year old and a 8 year old kid.
Yes, I also want the screw.
Heck, to sum it up better, here are the requirements, everything else is fair game. I'd appreciate any input:
- 4x4
- screw
- HD payload (requires EB, I think)
- max tow
- front bench (seating 6)
- leather steering wheel (I really want that, but I think I could live without it).

I think that's it! I can't wait, but with the above list, a 2011 is not an option, I think ....
Maybe later I could swap the grille with somebody who has an XL or STX and wants a chrome one? Not sure ....

Hi Flixden.

Sounds to me like you want a FX4, not a XLT. With the FX4 you will have seating for five. If you want the XLT 4x4, you will have a chrome grill and cloth seats. What is more important?

6 seats are more important, that's why the XLT.
Yeah, otherwise it would be the FX4.
Dream truck would be the XLT with a black grille.
I need the HD payload package. Not sure if that would even be available in a FX4 screw.

If you need the HD package, would you consider an F-250?

Hopefully the attachment works correctly. If so, here's a copy of the 2012 Order Guide.

Hopefully it will take some of the guesswork out of the process and answer some questions everyone has had.

I have been thinking about it. But really, it would be too much truck for what I need, I think, and I like the looks of the F-150 better, and it burns less gas with the EB.
I am using the truck for camping (4,500lbs trailer), therefore the HD payload package (have lots of stuff in the bed and 4 people). Besides that, I'd drive it to work (25 miles round trip), get firewood, trips to the dump, go skiing, hunting, snowshoeing and to the beach (the latter are the activities that require 4x4).

Awesome, thanks a lot! That will keep me busy! You guys are great! I can't wait. I want to have my final list ready asap.
Darn, do I wish there was an FX4 with HD payload and 6 seats! That FX4 looks great!

One more question for all of you: that USB port in the dash, what can that be used for besides my iPod?
Did I mention that I am extremely excited, and can't wait?

I agree! Do you really need the HD payload package + max tow?

Yes, I need both.
We go camping a lot, and I am towing a 20' travel trailer. When we go camping, I estimate that I will need a payload of around 1,800lbs +/-. That's not just a guess, it's a pretty close estimate because I took out trailer and my current truck to the scales on the last trip. I think only the HD payload package will get me there for a 4x4 screw.
Max tow is almost a must when towing a TT: those pull- out mirrors are worth every penny that this package adds to the price.

Ed, I don't know, it used to be there.
Here is what I do know: if you IM me your email address, I can send you the document. I have a lot more docs also for 2012 F-150's, including one with very detailed specifications. I can include a few more good documents with the ordering guide if you are interested. Let me know!
