I'm looking at getting the DT 6" drop adjustable ball mount with the 2.5" shank. Can anyone tell me what the dimension is from the top side of the shank that goes into your hitch to the bottom of the lower ball when adjusted to the lowest setting. I need up to 5" of drop with one of my trailers but I am concerned about ground clearence with the second ball being upside down.
I can give you a point of reference with my DT4 as the DT6 is 2" taller. With my DT4 (with the 2.5 shank) mounted on a F250 FX4 CC, unloaded with stock suspension on flat ground:
If I'm reading your request correctly, from the top side of the shank to the bottom of the lower ball, I get a reading of 12" (add 2" for the DT6). But DT doesn't figure drop that way; they measure it from the ball at highest mounting point to the ball at the lowest mounting point, hence I have a 4" drop.
For clearance off the road, the bottom of the lower ball to the road is 9.5" set at the lowest point. With the DT6, you would be at 7.5".
I keep mine set at the second lowest point and have 10.5" clearance, as set up for my water tank trailer. As I haul water weekly, I keep it in all the time at that height and have never centerlined it on road conditions. I can tell you that you need to be mindful when backing into parking spots though as you can catch a curb. I forgot one day and rammed it into about a foot of dirt on the side of a hill (oops) but didn't hurt anything. Well, other than that gaping gouge I left.
With the DT6, the difference is 2", which in my case, I thought was too low for ground clearance with my truck.
I highly recommend the hitch. Hope this helps.

Reason: clarification
I really like the look of these but have no need for 2 *****...I'd be much more interested if I could order it with only a 2 5/16" ball and not to worry about the reduced ground clearance.
