HOLY $%#%!!!

I am finally SCT tuned!!! I have gone through the whole deal with the help of all of you here even though my wife is not a fan of this forum . Sinister EGR delete, ARP head studs, 4" turbo back exhaust and gauges.

I ordered a SCT SF3 tuner last week and it arrived two days ago. I loaded the performance tune that it came with and I'll say I was impressed with that. Instead of waiting around I called innovative last night and had Eric send me the Xtreme Street custom tune and I can't stop smiling!! I cannot believe the difference in power! The truck is a night and day difference even from the canned tune.

The only issue I have is how quick the EGT's go up. I was pulling out from a stop light yesterday and I had to see what it had so I gave it the pedal. The truck was all over the road because it was wet out. I wasn't really paying attention to the EGT's because I was laughing my A$$ off. When I did finally think about looking at the EGT's they were at 1300 degrees!!!! I immediately let off and got a little worried. I'm sure since I didn't hold it there everything should be ok but I was wondering is there any other upgrade you diesel scientists know about that will control my EGT's?? I know I know....... keep off the pedal right? I will not be driving like Andretti normally but I had to see what it had......

Thanks guys for all of your wisdom. This thing rocks!!!!!

I installed a water/methanol injection kit from Snow performance with the 7 Gallon tank and 3 nozzles. Depending on how many cc you inject it can bring down temps by 200 - 300 degrees (usually just water). If you want extra power you can mix up to 49% methanol.

That is one way to decreasing temperatures. I see now that Maryland Diesel Performance and other companies are offering Batmowheels. They claim to drop egts 200 degrees. Im waiting on the results, but you must pull the turbo and change out the compressor side wheel. I believe it is about 400 bucks. An intercooler would lower egts a little bit but thats a little pricy.

Thats what I thought. I was told to get a bigger intercooler but considering how much I dropped into this already I wanted to try another option. So are you satisfied with the water injection? Does it affect reliability at all? What kit should I buy and how much? Thanks!

It doesn't affect reliability. It actually will clean your engine and is much safer than using propane like some guys do. Snow Performance makes a good kit I believe its like $400. You can contact Eric also and tell him that your truck is getting hot way to quick and he will edit your tune at no cost!

Do you already have an exhaust? 4" or so turbo back will help get the hot exhaust out of there.

Ok so I guess I'll get the snow performance stage 2 kit which is right around $500. I called innovative diesel and he started laughing. He said to get the water/meth kit as it's cheaper than an intercooler and actually does a better job lowering EGT's. My wife is gonna love this!!

If it only gets to 1300 after having your foot in it for awhile, I don't think that's really anything to worry about.

Exactly. With a properly functioning turbo and no induction leaks, seeing 1300* EGT's from hammer down to cruising speed isn't a big deal with that tune. If you held it longer, you'd see the temp come down.

Regardless, 1300* for a short while is nothing to worry about. Once you start to drive it normally again, you'll see the temps you're used to. Water(no meth) injection is awesome, but you shouldn't need it yet.
