well, ford garage tells me they believe that its a fuel pump issue since the yare only getting 22 lbs of pressure.... im going t olook at it this weekend and go from there..
WOOHOO!!!! the truck is alive and running!
turns out the fuel pump WAS going bad... put he old one on that i replaced 6 years ago for giggles, since it wasnt bad then... and it fired right up!
now heres a kicker, looked at the receipt for the replacement pump from 2005, it said limited lifetime warranty (ORIELLYS) , so i thought, what hte hell, il lask for giggles, get to Oriellys and ask if they honored 6 year old warranties, the guy said sure do! i thought, SWEET! thisll save me 130 bucks!, he looked up the fuel pump, and.... they dont carry that particular pump anymore..... i was like, ****! oh well, cant win em all i guess.... but it just goes to show, Karma is a pain in the ***... when i get one step up, she kicks me 2 steps down..... but he truck is alive and ill be replacing bed bolts tommorrow!

PEACE!
First, I'm glad that the truck is up and running...yay u!
Secondly, I'm with Ches...if Orielly's can't replace the part, I believe they owe you the amount you spent on the pump in 2005.

+3 they owe you a replacement. The reciept, which you still have in your possession says Life Time Warranty. Either your still alive or typing from Heaven (the dead). If there is a price difference, I'd make the offer to pay the difference...but I wouldn't eat the price for a new pump when you have one with a "life time warranty". They didn't say...life time, or until we stop carrying that brand.
you guys have good points... im not going to fuss with it hough, im back where i started.... so either the old pump is going bad, or its omething else.. today im going to perform cylinder pressure checks and am going to test the exhaust pipe to see if there is a burnt valve. right now im thinking bad head gasket between cylinders or a burnt valve since i was running really lean for about 6 months... also, wierd thing.... put over half a tank of gas in last weekend.. took a trip of about 10 miles, got back and gas was dripping from the front of the fuel tank... it dripped about a cup of gas... maybe 2... hasnt dripped since, so now im afraid the fuel tank, which is steel, might have a crack in it somehow, i dont see how but what else could it be??? it hasnt leaked since and if it was a cracked hose, surely it would spray while the truck is running.... i cant afford a new vehicle, there is a nice looking mid 70's ford in gainesville on craigslist, if i had the cash i would buy it, but right now, i dont need new problems... so im going to go all out and replace the whole fuel pump unit, new universal cat converter and i need to look at my thermostat, and depending on what i might find out today, a new head gasket or valve(s).... argh.... so glad i have some mechanical knowledge, id be screwed if i took it to ford garage at 60 bucks a hour labor. hell they wanted 500 for a fuel pump when oriellys down the street wants 155. LMAO, typical ford garage huh! PEACE
ok, compression checked
1 - 141 psi
2 - 150 psi
3- 150 psi
4- 140 psi
5 - 150 psi
6 - 130 psi could be a bad exhaust valve????
i blocked off the EGR with the exception of 2 very small holes... runs a litle smoother but still drives crappy... meh last thing to do i guess is take out ALL the injectors and pruge them... another day!
I wouldn't be too worried about those readings. I'd be more worried if #6 was down around 100. Did you have a battery charger keeping the battery up while doing the compression check? If not, that could cause the slightly lower compression on the last cylinder.
placed a brand new complete in-tank sending unit and pump on the truck, changed NOTHING, running like ***** and pi$$ing me off... dont know how much more of this thing i can take..... i need help, funds are fricken disapearing faster than i can acquire them...
co-worker thinks it might be a bad cam.....ideas?
I just reread this thread trying to think of something that might help you out and I really have nothing to offer. I don't have a 300-6(mine is a 302 v8) so I'm pretty well lost on what you need for info/parts. Does the truck have any trouble codes? I didn't see anything about that, so maybe you could check there. Backfiring through the intake has always been a rich fuel system/incorrect timing issue.
Sorry I'm not more help. Understanding how frustrating it can be at times.
got to thinking about hat backfiring, took a look at the timing today, i had made a mistake on where 10 degrees btdc was... i feel like an idiot. i was at 22 degrees btdc, very suprised it even ran!!! correct eh iming, motor doesnt shake as much, but now it has little power, tommorrow its getting new plug wires and im unblocking the egr valve... will post updates asap.. thanks!
When you say it has no power, does it just not rev up or does it misfire? Does the truck have catalytic converters? If so, could be plugged up. Not sure if that's been checked yet.
we may have narrowed it down to a dead cylinder, number 3 when the plug wire is pulled while running makes no change in the operation of hte engine at all, so this weekend ill be pulling hte injectors and soaking them, then purging them.
ok, today i worked on the truck... placed studs where the EGR bolts up cuz for some reason i keep losing a bolt, missing threads i guess.. so far its in tact... also installed a brand new K&N air filter for the truck, had to manufacture my own brackets, works good, sounds bad ***. then i pulled all the injectors, soaked them in B12 chemtool for an hour, took em out, blew out the chemtool with air hose, then took 4-in-one oil and dripped it into the top end, then hook up a homemade wirng harness for the injector and clicked it on the battery terminals until all of them were free and the oil went thru... reinstalled, checked for leaks, started her up and she drove liek a new truck, stil lrusn great, but after driving about 15 miles, one of the injectors is leaking just a little bit, i think the o-rings should have been replaced... no good on my part, so now il lhave to pull that one injector and replace the o-ring, no sense going thru that BS of remounting the fuel rail if i dont need to... so, for now, the truck runs really good and has the get up and go i want... until the next breakage! PEACE
