I have a rig that has had all the emissions stuff pulled from it, except the vacuum reservoir (the big soup can) on the inner fender. I'm not entirely sure where the line leads to...and suggestions (intake)? The reason I ask is because I recently developed a pretty severe vacuum leak, I popped the hood and I saw a gash in that can. So seeing as everything else is gone, I should have no need for this, correct? So I should be able to just yank it out and cap where ever it leads, correct? Thanks
Oh ok...I was just looking through some catalogs and the reservoir was lumped in with the emissions stuff, so I assumed...and you know what that does. So if this acquires a gash, it can still cause a terrible vacuum leak and make the rig run like crap?
Yeah...I was thinking of going that route. However, the A/C stuff is removed, so all I have is heat, can this reservoir be removed with no ill effects?
there is normally another resevoir over on the drivers side fenderwell for vaccuum purposes, the big one by the battery tray is for the AC, as mentioned. I've unhooked mine with no ill effects. Just tee the hose back to itself or block it off somehow, if youre not using your AC.

That's the one I'm talking about. I didn't realize there were so many vacuum reservoirs. Sorry for being unclear. But yes, the one on the driver's side is the one that has a a big gash in it. So now I'm back to, can I unplug and where does it go? Thanks.
The purpose of the vacuum reservoir is to keep the heater/AC controls from letting go at low vacuum, such as at WOT.
Without the can, it's possible that the plenum won't be able to route the air properly if you're moving fast on the highway. You won't see any effects at idle, since vacuum is high then.
Thanks FMC. I think I'll give that JB Weld putty a try first, then rip it out if need be.
I do have a question though, in my search for a replacement, be it reproduction, junk yard or parts trucks...I saw a couple difference variations. I saw the can like I have, I saw the short can, but then I also saw a can that looked like mine, but it had 3 hose inputs, where mine only has one line going to it. Anyone know the difference? And could I replace my big reservoir with one of the shorter/stubbier reservoirs?
