Welcome to FTE. Please ignore the nuts in this forum....shoot are there any sane guys here???
My hinges are in one part of the garage, hood in another, cab in even another, but are the arms starting off in the correct position.
Could you post a picture of how it looks? (pictures of your truck would be nice just for us truck **** addicts.)

How much bondo or lead is in the hood?? 
Had a decklid on a '48 Ford Coupe that was like that... Stupid thing would never stay open until one day the P.O.'s ban-do job cracked... holy smokes! Talk about paving on bondo... I chipped at it and it was nearly 1" thick in spots!!! He'd carpeted the inside of the trunk lid so no one would know the wiser.
Good thing it was a clapped-out project/parts car otherwise I would have been pissed. It was worth a few laughs!
