60e vs. 80e DP + 2 Q?

Ive been pondering what tune is better for what kind of driving. Over the course of a few weeks Ive been driving to the same place for work about 60 miles each way, mostly hwy driving all but about 5 miles each way CC set at 65 and shifting under 2K RPMs this is what Ive come up with, if anyone has seen any other difference please tell. 60economy Ive averaged it out (hand calculated) to be 15.174 mpg. 80economy is averaged to be 15.000. Both were at about 2psi boost the whole time. Whats the best tune for mileage in your truck? The best mileage I have ever gotten with the truck is 16.16MPG, I will be turning 107,000 miles tomorrow.

Where can I find the rubber intake portion that connects at the turbo? It wasnt looking too hot when I changed out the turbo.

Can't help with the tuner question but here is a place for the turbo boot.

I haven't noticed any difference between 80 Econo and 60 Econo either.

I haven't noticed any mileage gain/loss between 80e and 60e.

I'll have a more definite answer on this in the coming weeks. I've been running my truck in 60e ever since I got live tuned at RRE. This week when I fill up I am going to run 80e for a month. My average is 15.86 mpg and with 3" of lift and 315's on it.

I cant wait to hear what you come up with.

Thanks Greg

I believe James at DP Tuner told me that either of the economy tunes may or may not make a difference in mileage, it depends on the truck. The way I looked at it was for $45 (I think) per tune if it bumped it up any it would be worth it with the amount of miles I put on a year. It didnt chance my mileage at all but I dont at all regret getting them because it made the trucks drivibility so much freakin' better!!

Of course he didnt have that when I needed one...

Haha its ok, I just ordered it from PartsGuyEd.. But I prefer to buy from Clay simply because "add to basket" is so much easier than emailing someone for a part number because its an obscure unlisted part

Ed made it easy, I just sent him a picture of it and he responded with what I needed. But I still prefer "add to basket"

I got a .4 improvement when in 80e before live tuning. I think it was 12.8. Since live tunning the best I got was 14.6 on our way to Indiana after rre. All driving in 80e. I actually got 13.-- pulling a jet boat 250 miles but we were never driving over 70. I think my biggest problem is driving to fast 75-85 to work in the mornings. If I left 10 min early and drove 60 I could probably get 15 or so.

Wait.. You're suggesting sacrificing 10 mins of sleep time? No thank you!

I switch my tunes around as I drive and get slightly better mileage.

I live in Massachusetts, so the roads I drive on are hilly and swiss cheese. The pedal is too sensitive sometimes and I lose mileage just because it revs with every bump I hit, so I accelerate up until the TC locks in 3rd (i had Jody move my shift up to 41mph and not downshift until i get to 40mph) then switch to my 40 tow where the pedal is much less sensitive. I was going to have Jody change my pedal sensitivity for the econ tunes down to the tow setting for this reason, but he was away last month and I havent gotten around to it. I switch to 40 tow on the highway too, once its locked up and doesnt affect the shifting I dont see the need to dump the extra fuel in and push the EGT.

I pretty much stopped using my 60e, I just give it enough gas to accel quickly and get to 3rd as quick as I can without going over 2000rpm. I average about 16.5mpg. Mostly highway, and lots of traffic coming home, mornings I cruise at 70.

I picked up a new diesel jetta last week though, havent filled yet but im expecting 40+ mpg. No more putting senseless miles on the powerstroke!

I see a slight improvement in 60e over the 80e, approximately .2-.4 mpgs. I have plenty of power in 60e with my single shot injectors and also Jody recommended it to me for daily driving. There is a very noticable power increase in 80e over the 60e, but I'm trying to squeeze out all the mpgs I can nowadays.

My truck gets better mpg both mixed and hwy with 80e than 60e. Now I only use 60e when offroad for less pedal sensitivity. Phone rep said better hwy mpg with 60e than 80e but that is not the case with my truck.

Mike,
When do they start using the winter blends in your area? That might affect your results if the fuel blend gets switched during your experiment.
