4x4 kingpin setup, early
In particular i need to know about the rectangular kingpin cap shims and the role the washer plays under the kingpin cap bolts...
my situation has been...
Worn frontend - replaced, kingpins, trunnion (kingpin) bearings, bushs, tierod etc ect...
My kingpin cap bolts kept on loosenning...
I overtightened them and ended cracked the knuckle...
On a retailers advice i replaced the knuckle with a jeep knuckle (orix)...
i could not bolt a reinforcing L plate fully up to the orix unit...
The king pin tore out of the knuckle...
I now have a proper ftruck knuckle...eveything is new, clean and i am ready to reassemble...
i am also chit scared im going to do it wrong...
I have some spring washers under the bolts of the bottom king caps...
I have normal washers under the bolts of the top king caps
One of the things i dont undersatnd is... are the kingpin cap bolts supposed to protrude thru to the inside of the knuckle?... if so are they supposed to load the bearing...if so by how much?
I also wonder what is the purpose of the rectangular kinpin cap shims? Are they used to centre the axle in the knuckl? - do they play any role in torquing the nolts or bearings...
how will i keep my cap bolts from loosenning?
i really appreciate any help in my seven month saga...
.
