After the little discussion in the picture topic i want to replace all the bolts and clips that hold down the cap. Whats kind of bolts should I replace them with?
i just used standard 6 point headed bolts, same length and size as the stock. i didnt replace the 2 really long ones, those are a pain in the **** no matter what.
The clips are needed if you intend to put the interior trim back on. They have the holes to accept the plastic plugs in the trim that hold it in place. There are THREE long bolts across the top of the steel portion of the roof. Once you own a T-40 Tamper-proof driver bit the need to replace the hardware becomes moot and you will HAVE to have one to take the original hardware out to begin with.
A note of caution. DO NOT remove the top and drive around with the hardware removed from the bed rails UNLESS you remove the spring nuts as well (or put the bolts back in). Otherwise the spring nuts will slither out and fall down between the inner and outer body panels where retrieving them is all but impossible.
Those spring nut was what I was talking about, I was surprised my uncle had the correct bit when we took it off. I bought a bunch of grade 5 bolts with the correct spring nuts
