Much obliged to all again on your opinions on this accident multiplier. I took both the grill and side bars off in 30 minutes this eve, hard to believe I didn't do this before, looks so much better, like a truck should. So, the bug deflector.....what do you think. On or Off.
Funny as I was looking at the bolt on design of the grill as I was taking it off. I don't think it would survive a 5 mph hit. All that is holding it is 3/8 inch bolts. I'm sure they would have not held up. I also remember back in 1975 while I was in the Seabees. I made a front grill but not full for a truck, soon afterwards the rest of the guys wanted one. But I made it from the bottom up and made it part of the frame. Alot more stout that this flimsy thing. But still it was never crash tested.
Much obliged to everyone. I didn't figure on the damage factor when I started this thread....its coming off, the side bars too!! Invest the money from it in chrome bumpers and grill
Fantastic decision! I think the bug deflector is 50/50. Our trucks look fine with our without them. I prefer the lower profile ones that don't stick up, or can't be seen from inside the truck. I have a Lund Avenger and its like that. The ones that stick up are kinda bulky. I say temporarily remove the bug guard and see if you like it better or not.
