I had to take out the a/c dash moint comtrol unit. This was part of the truck when i bought it. I ended up taking everythin out..the hoses..condenser...compressor...i have every piece. I was planning to keep it off for mpg reasons...and i dont really use ac. I wanted to know what u guys thought..if i should keep it..or just sell everything..and if so...how much everything would approximately be. Being there is nothing wrong..the compressor isnt froze...etc.
TAPE over all the connections where hoses and other parts attach. When air/moisture gets into the system, rust begins.
When this occurres, the entire system has to be evacuated within a couple of weeks. Otherwise you can kiss the compressor, condenser, dryer tank and expansion valve...good bye.
There are two 2 types of A/C for these trucks, Factory installed Integral A/C and dealer installed AC. Both are "hang-on" units, bolt to the bottom of the dash.
1) Factory installed Integral A/C is combined with the heater, the A/C controls are in the same panel as the heater controls. There is an extra glovebox within the bezel.
2) Dealer installed A/C is not combined with the heater. The two A/C control switches are mounted in the bezel.
The A/C unit probably uses the older R12 refrigerant, so it has a lesser market value than the newer units, in my opinion. I would have left it on, since there's little drag on the engine when the compressor is not engaged. Since you've taken it off, I would consider selling it for the reasons stated above--it might rust out during storage. You could always get a new bolt-on aftermarket system later, which will use the current refrigerant.
