Leak

so I guess there are two fuel filters on my 2004 F250. One on top and one on bottom. My questions is has anyone had any issues with the one on top leaking gas? I dont know how to post a picture of where it is leaking or I would. But it is in the front on the drivers side by the oil filter looks like it need a socket to take it off or a big wrench. need some help her guys. could it be an O-ring??

The upper diesel fuel filter cap does have an o-ring. Replacement filters come with that o-ring.

If you see a diesel fuel leak from the cap, just remove it and the filter. Use the correct size socket wrench - do not use the 1/2" square hole as a removal point. Inspect the o-ring and the cap. If the cap is cracked, replace it.

Lubricate the o-ring and cap threads with engine oil, and reinstall the cap and a new filter. Tighten the fuel filter cap so that the cap is flush against the aluminum filter housing body. The torque limit is printed on the cap, but the cap needs to be flush to be fully seated.

Thanks Lou, I am going to change it out today. When I was looking at it yesterday I took off the cap and pulled out the filter and I noticed a small o-ring about the size of a nickle, any idea where this came from because I didnt see anywhere it could go?

There is a small o-ring that is installed in the middle of the fuel filter. New filters come with the o-ring already installed.

Look into the center hole of the fuel filter. The o-ring is about 1/2 way up and is installed in a groove.

If the o-ring somehow came out, I would just install a new filter. That o-ring is there for a reason. Some of the real experts who inhabit this forum would know the exact reason, but for us common folk, just replace the filter.
