My GOLDEN oppurtunity!!!!!

IF you have the time and the funds... GO FOR IT! Thatd make one hell of a write up for Diesel Power magazine! The biggest issues you will face, and ranked by PITA, are
- wiring
-this includes all sensors, located all over the truck
- body modification in engine bay and floor board for tranny
-spaces for IDM, etc
-the cross members may be different widths/lengths, most likely
- And making room for the IC
- 4x4? youd have to make sure theres room for the front drive shaft past the cross member and such
- and then all other misc. things like switching the guage clusters, lighting controls, pretty much the dash.
If i was in your shoes, provided the time and money werent an issue, id love to take that on.

If I remember correctly in the great republic of Kalifornia any engine swap to a newer engine must meet the smog requirements of the year model of the engine. Not trying to be a buzz kill, but I would find out if I could legally drive it after the swap is done before even considering such an undertaking.

I live in the Peoples Republic of California. Our biggest export is fruits and nuts. But seriously, heres the way i see it. We dont have to smog pre 98 diesels, nor do we have visual inspections of older diesels...soooooooooooooooo it stand to reason that unless you drive to the dmv after your swap and say "see what i done!?!?" then the clean air *****, DMV, and your insureance would never be the wiser.

Yeah we have emissions testing here in SE WI. PITA. Not as bad now since it's only OBDII and newer (97+) vehicles. Before they changed it, anything pre 97 had to take the IM-240 test. Dyno simulated drive. My civic ended up getting parked because while it got 40mpg and ran great, it was at 200k miles and burned a little oil and apparently that was just enough to push it past the limits. So I drove my 351 powered C6 trannied truck and got 8mpg instead. But it's ok as I was being kind to the environment in burning 5x the fuel and a little oil vs 1/5th the fuel and the same amount of oil.
Not to mention the jackwhad kids never knew how to drive a stick shift properly and one kid while trying to figure out how to shift it managed to turn the wheel and slam against the side of the dynamometer.

The smog rep's I talked to said:
- The motor has to be from the same class of truck .i.e., Light-duty/light duty, HD-HD, etc.
- The smog guy's said they test to certain tolerences. (Not engine specific, but duty specific.)
That's what 3 different smog rep's told me.
(It also may be different for diesel.)

ok too much reading but what id do is graft the body on to the 08 chassie
so cut the firewall out of the idi then cut similar on the 08 then match up weld up and move the body mounts around to make it right
then if need be use the idi rad but the psd rad should be able to work also id get a body lift i think the hood sits higher off the frame then its all simple stuff and not saftey related plus you got the chassie parts are 08 the body is all idi parts then the hard part is gauges which has a few options if ur with joe again have him gimme a call or give u my number and ill talk you into or out of it

The reason this probably hasn't been done before is because it would be a MOJOR PITA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If you start this swap you will be hating yourself (and everything else in the world) about 25% of the way through it!
If you prove me wrong and pull it off I'll be the first to congratulate you!
