My cruise control doesn't disengage when I tap the brakes. I have to really slow down for it to disengage. If I hit the clutch pedal the engine races as I slow down or re-engage the clutch. It does disengage with the switch on the steering wheel.
There is a pressure switch on the brake itself, its small and just behind the pedal arm or near it(dont remember rightly). It might be dying or loose. It sounds loose....
I am not a backyard mechanic. So I did what I always do, I went to my mechanico in the pueblo. I tried in my best Spanglish to explain the problem and show him where to look. There are very few diesel pickups and vans around here, so pointing Gustavo in the general direction helps. I am not sure what he did but I will go by next week and ask him.
I went to the pueblo and saw my mechanico Gustavo. He told me it was some electrical connection that came apart or need cleaning on the switch on the brake pedal. I am not sure which as my Spanglish has limitations.
BTW, my cost of repair was 100 pesos ($8 US). You got to love that.
Mine does that, too. I have to more than tap the breaks for it to dump the vacuum. It's not ridiculously bad but I have slowed down a bit and then it takes off again.

That is exactly what my truck did. Check and clean the electrical connections on the brake pedal. That is what my mechanico did.
