Unhappy 1987 f150 w/300 6cyl not charging properly

Someone please help. We have changed the alternator (twice) and battery however after a week of normal to heavy use the battery is drained again. I can't locate any shorts and I am positive that there isn't anything being left on that could be draining the battery. According to Advance Auto the alternator and battery are good and working properly. I will entertain any suggestion. thx

Check the ground wire on your bat. My girlfriends mustang had the same problem and the ground wire was the issue. Try putting new battery terminal on the ground and power cable first. I wouldn't go with the cheapest but not the most expensive. If that doesn't work you might want to get a new ground wire.

My dad has a friend that had that same issue but his starters were also dieing. after he changed the ground cable the problem went away

I had a problem on my 94 years ago that sounds like yours.. There's a fused link in the wiring from the alt to the fender mounted solenoid (theres one other connector midway in the harness also I believe). If thats bad the alternator wont charge.

If you have a voltmeter, check the battery voltage with the truck off (probably be 12.something) and then check it running. While running it should be 13.2-14 volts. If it still reads the same as with the truck off then there's probably going to be a problem in the wiring somewhere. (assuming the alternator is in fact good)

You also need to verify the "exciter wire" (Light Green/Red) is hot with the ignition in the Start and Run position. This is On-switch for the alternator.
