Heated mirrors are not a requirement south of the Red River! 30 of 31 days this August in the triple digits here in H-town.
Rick
I disagree. I ran I-10 from CA to FL, from February to August. At nights, between Houston and Pensacola, the humidity was high enough to need heated mirrors. At least the heated mirrors on the Freightliner proved useful, and USEABLE, when they fogged over.
And even though I live in TX, I've been known to drive north of the Red River.
So if they won't slide in or out, what is their fixed position?
By my recollection (I bought a '99 new in Feb '99) the early model Superduty towing mirrors were permanently in the extended position. They were always in the stuck way out there mode.
I got the little paddle mirrors on mine, and still had to fold the drivers side in manually when I pulled through my single door garage door opening.
I would not have been able to pull in without getting out of the truck, walking around and folding the passenger side as well if I would have got the towing mirrors.
P.S.: I have heated mirrors on my Lexus LS430, they come on when the rear defroster is in use (they may come on in other HVAC modes, I am not sure.) I bet in the 3 years I have had it, the rear defroster has been on once, maybe twice. And Houston is normally pretty humid. I have been known to drive north of the RR, but not in that car. I bet the heated mirrors would be nice in colder climates - like for driving the truck to Santa Fe, NM to ski, for example...
