SD Mirror Features vs. Year Models

I apologize in advance if this information is out there and I cannot find it with a search, but can someone tell me when the first year that towing mirrors for the SD trucks came with a power fold/extend option?

From one thread I found I am guessing 2008 but would like to confirm.

My '05 didn't have power fold or extend. As far as I know, 2008 was the first year.

I started looking around for some briefly last night and it looks like they would cost a fortune. Maybe I will wait a few years until they have been copied enough so that Ford has to drop their price a bit!

I have a '99 5.4L that has the little paddle mirrors. I actually wanted them because back then the towing mirrors did not retract even manually and they really stuck out, not looking very good (to me).

On my '02 7.3L, you can manually pull them out and push them in, which for my purposes is probably sufficient. If I ran across a pair of used power mirrors for a really good price, I might consider it, but I don't think a $1000+ mirror upgrade is in my future.

You can find em on ebay for alot less. I'm not sure if there are any issues with getting the power and switches wired up though.

I replaced one of my towing mirrors on my '99 with a manual slide-out type (Kool Vue brand from Autoparts Warehouse). No wiring issues at all. If you wanted the power upgrade, I think that would be a nightmare...new harnesses, switches and mirrors!

So in 1999, the towing mirrors were fixed in the extended position? They wouldn't move in or out? That would be crazy. I have to pull in my driver side mirror when I use an ATM or drive thru and they are retracted as far as they will go. I guess they were like the current Dodge tow mirrors that stick out over a foot from the truck on each side.

Yes. My OEM towing mirrors fold in, but do not slide.

You could pull out the mirrors on my 02. I later switched to signal mirrors off a newer truck. That was pretty much plug an play except for the signal light which was still easy to do. I've seen several 08 mirrors on older trucks and talked to one guy. He said they fit right on but he had to modify the wiring and switch but according to him it wasn't that hard to do. I'd like to get a set eventually but on my 07 which I just bought I have a long list ahead of it.

Dfuser has them but they are about $800 for the power variant. The 08 come I think in manual, power, power telescopic. All of the mirrors I've seen on 99-07 can manually be slid out. They can be hard to slide if they haven't ever been used though. The biggest benifit past the cool look is the convex mirror is larger and easier to see out of. Don't think they will have knock offs for a while on those specific mirrors at least not cheap ones. I'd invest in the 99-07 ones they can be found in a set for around a hundred bucks. Occasionally I've seem the 08+ mirrors individually for about a hundred bucks. If you were patient and looked you could probably piece a set together for less than 300 bucks.

seller "greenleafprime" has the 08+ mirrors on eBay right now starting at $250. I think the power fold ones are $350 each.

at $500, or 700, that is still too rich for my blood for just mirrors.

For the record, 2010 and later mirrors have a heated blind-spot mirror. On '09 and earlier, only the large flat glass is heated.

Heated mirrors are not a requirement south of the Red River! 30 of 31 days this August in the triple digits here in H-town.
